The Problem:
When a tech startup approached me with the idea of turning an abandoned factory into a co-working space, I knew it wasn’t going to be easy. They wanted something that retained the soul of the industrial heritage but still felt modern and inspiring. And, of course, the budget was tighter than a pair of skinny jeans.
My Approach:
I’ve always believed that old bricks tell the best stories. Instead of erasing the factory’s history, I decided to embrace it. Exposed beams, cracked walls, and weathered steel—these became features, not flaws. I complemented them with sleek glass partitions and floating staircases, creating a dialogue between the past and the present.
The Vision:
My goal was to craft a space where people could think big, breathe free, and occasionally bump into history. The soaring ceilings were perfect for fostering that sense of endless possibility. Breakout areas bathed in natural light brought warmth to the industrial vibe, making it feel alive and inviting.
The Technical Details:
I worked with sustainable materials wherever possible. Desks and acoustic panels were made from reclaimed wood, and we installed a geothermal heating system to keep energy usage low. My favorite feature? A suspended meeting pod crafted from salvaged metal sheets. It hangs like a cocoon over the main atrium—a perfect nod to the building’s industrial roots.
The result? A transformation that became the talk of the town and a magnet for creative startups. It’s one of those projects I’ll always be proud of
